On Wednesday 10th February, 19 members of D.M.S. visited the Holden Museum in Trafalgar. There we split into two groups led by Jake and Peter, who guided us around the vast array of Holden vehicles. During our visit they displayed a tremendous knowledge and told us some very funny tales.
On display were immaculate examples of sedans, station wagons, utes, a convertible, motors, vehicles with sections cut-away, front and rear ends, gearboxes, Peter Brock’s race cars.
Also on display was a tram and a boat, both manufactured by Holden.
The company was founded in 1865 as a saddlery manufacturer in South Australia. It then made side-cars for motor cycles before turning to cars. During WWII it made Army trucks, aircraft engines and field guns. At one time they even made refrigerative equipment.
A new structure is under construction, which is a replica of the Holden Bros original building. To round up the visit, we all adjourned to the local pub for a very convivial lunch.
